14. Flight Manual#

This flight manual covers all airplanes in FS One. Click on the airplane name on the right.

Another navigation approach is to click on the Flight Manual button when running FS One. That click will open this manual online on the airplane that you have selected in FS One.

Some comments apply:

  • Airplane Pictures: The pictures of the airplanes below show the stock size (as originally designed) and also any scaled variants, i.e. the stock airplanes in different sizes.

  • Scaled Variants: The scaled variants are not simply graphically scaled up or down to look bigger or smaller. Also, the physics (aerodynamics, mass, propulsion, etc) for each is scaled according to the size, and beyond that some additional adjustments were manually made when they were created. The bulk of the scaling (math) is done (calculated) when the airplanes are loaded at runtime, and the method of doing this is based on the square-cube law and more that derives from it. Details about how to create your own sizes are discussed in the chapter on the airplane Scaling Wizard. The Ultra Stick Lite 120 (last in list below) has the most examples with 8 scaled variants flyable in the simulator.

  • Switches, note 1: The tables below call out 2 and 3 positions switches as “2-Pos” and “3-Pos”. Then the actual positions of the switches count from zero and go: “pos 0” and “pos 1” for a “2-Pos” switch, and “pos 0”, “pos 1”, “pos 3” for a “3-Pos” switch.

  • Switches, note 2: On modern transmitters, pos 0 is usually up (if the switch is on front) or pushed away (if the switch is on the top). Moving the switch full the opposite direction is pos 1 or pos 2 for 2-position and 3-position switches, respectfully. How this translates to your controller depends on what controller you are using and how you have done any remapping for it.

  • Elevator Trim Setting: Most power planes are set for trimmed for level flight around mid throttle.

  • Flaps: Some airplanes with flaps have elevator compensation. That means elevator mix is used when flaps deployed so that the airplane remains in trim (or nearly so) for the eventual steady speed with that flap setting.

  • Organization of the Controls List: In each table below, the left column “Ch” is just an organizing element counting from 1 to 8. This ordering corresponds to the standard axes order described previously. More details about actual axes and channels is covered in the chapter on transmitter edits.
